How do I balance my life?

No automatic alt text available.

For a person to have a balanced life I believe that we should know how to weigh our priorities without jeopardizing others. As a student, employee, daughter, sister and girlfriend. I honestly have a hard time to do so.

Four years ago I've decided to balance my life so I divided all my priorities into five:

1. Physical

Physical priorities will be the things and activities that will help me improve physically. In one of my previous post I mentioned that I go to the gym. That is one thing for me to balance myself. Other activities might be joining fun runs, eating healthy foods, drinking 8 glasses of water everyday, 6 to 8 hours of sleep everyday, delegating "me time" part of the week and many more.

I started small by exercising 15 minutes every morning and then later I joined the gym for boxing. The good thing about setting a priority for this activity is that I am not only exercising I am also learning self defense.

2. Spiritual

Spiritual priorities will be the activities and things that will enhance my relationship with God. This part may vary depending on the person. For me, this is by communicating and knowing God more. To do this I attend my weekly prayer meeting with my community, attend masses, act one good deed a day, listen and play christian songs and many more.

The good thing about this activities is that it also enhances my musical skills and I having deep connection with God. :)

3. Mental and Intellectual

As a psychology major this aspect may also vary. But for me I maintain my mental health by instilling inner peace. I do this by avoiding negative things. Instead of feeding myself with negative news and ideas I choose to see and listen the positive things that it has. Like for example if I fail one of my exams instead of focusing on self-pity, having a grudge on my professor or blaming the test questions. I try to see the reasons why I did not pass and the room for improvements so next time I'll do better.

Other things can be by avoiding toxic people at work, ignoring negative comments of people about you that you think that are not true and many more.

I also make time to read everyday to expand my knowledge on the topics that I like. This is a way to boost my intellect as well.

On my planner this is one of the things that I look forward. I make sure that I read everyday for at least 30 minutes.

4. Emotional

There are different ways to maintain healthy emotion in balancing life. For me, to balance my emotion is by keeping my company at peace. Meaning I avoid issues, dramas, conflict among my loved ones. These keeps my emotion positive and if ever there are conflicts as much as possible I resolve it before going to bed.

I also practice saying the words "Thank you, I'm sorry and I know you can" to others and to myself. These magic words are life savers. Whenever I face difficulty I remember these words and let it echo in my head.

5. Social

Apart from my other priorities I also make sure that I still have time with my friends and family. I set aside a time for them by simply talking with them and letting know that I am here for them.

Author Maxwell once quoted "It will not be lonely at the top if you invest in people". I believe in time I will achieve my dreams and by investing time with my family and friends now. When the time comes I will have people to celebrate it with. :)

Every week I set my planner tapping all of these at least once making room for each and executing them equally. By doing so I believe I am equally balancing my priorities and giving each part a chance to grow as well.

Also, once I achieve these priorities I reward myself. Rewarding yourself makes it more fun. The process itself is rewarding but knowing that there is also an evident reward for yourself makes it meaningful.

Good time management is a must! I am still keep tracking myself it might be hard but I know it will be worth it.

My BLEPP 2018 - Registered Psychometrician Journey

This year has been a roller coaster ride for me. Little people know that I am actually reviewing for my board exam while having my thesis writing 1, comprehensive exam and working at the same time. Only a few people know that I'm planning to take the boards and they all thought that it was a career and educational suicide. I can still remember my sister telling me that it was like a double edge sword. If I fail in my board exam my self-esteem will be jeopardized that will cause decrease performance on my comprehensive exam and thesis writing 1, and will probably affect my work - because of depression? I think. I honestly don't care anymore. I've been dreading to do this for years and now I am tired of being afraid. I am ready to do it now.  Graduate School Comprehensive Exam - My folder Five years of fight or flight Reviewing for my boards - downloaded since I'm on self-review I graduated from college 5 years ago - May of 2013 to be exact
