After college graduation usually people go straight ahead look for a job, save money, date someone, get promoted - eventually, buy a car, house, make investment funds and many more.
That's what I also thought five years ago right after graduation. I go straight ahead look for a job and refuse to be left behind by my classmates. Worked my way looking forward getting promoted. After 3 years of working I realized that promotion is not often given to "who exactly is performing but rather who is good in politicizing". On my years of work I realized that I can't save that much since I have bills to pay, responsibility comes kicking in. I can date my partner but there is so little time to do so and sometimes you're too tired to even get out of bed. And buying a car nor a house is not that easy there are a lot of things to consider before having one. Investment funds is something to be learned or else you might lose your money.
In some point in life I think I'm not the only one who realized it. I think every individual who's been in my age realized it too. As I juggle everyday in life I realized things:
1. You will be judge based on your place in the pyramid.
Unconsciously, we are placed in a society where the rich, professional, high degree earners are at the top and the so called "poor and uneducated" is at the lower part. Sounds like a harsh reality but it is a fact. I can still remember a quote something like this "you are judge based on what you do for living". If you are a doctor automatically you will be respected, admired and worshiped - literally (people will be afraid to touch you). But if you are a fruit vendor people will treat you like you've been born and raised to be treated with little respect and to serve others. Bitter pill but this is reality.
2. To climb the pyramid you need to invest in yourself
The only way up to the pyramid is to invest in yourself. I will write a separate post on how to invest in yourself.
Investing in yourself is like equipping yourself into battle. Though there are no evident battle. The battle ahead you in the future will surely test you especially your skills. And the only thing to prepare for that battle is to invest in yourself- studying.
3. Education is a lifelong process
Everyday is part of your education. Whenever you ride the bus, go to work, eat lunch, have your breaks, and go home. All these requires studying - sounds funny but it is.
When you go to ride the bus you will learn specific hours where the bus is already filled and it will be hard for you to sit. Next time you will leave home early so you can sit during the trip. When you go to work and arrived at the office you will learn that the guards will check your bag before entering or you should always bring your id. When you eat lunch you will learn that there are not enough healthy food in the cafeteria so next time you'll bring healthy food for lunch. And the list goes on.
Life is a lifelong process even on your last breathe you'll still realize something. I believe that wherever you go there will be learning and you might not like school that much but trust me the school does not end at the four corners of the classroom. It starts outside of it.
4. To make myself better
I am not a perfect person but I am really eager to make myself better. My parents always tells me "Ang tanging maipapamana lamang namin sainyo ay ang inyong pagaaral" - The only inheritance that we can give to you is education. They were right. People might look down on you but they will never take away that you can do things that others might have difficulty dealing with it.
Like others I make mistakes but I am eager to take baby steps to improve myself: physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and financially.
I hope this blog helps you. How about you why do you want to study or why are you studying again?
Thanks,
Seline :)
